“Old people`s tea” is a special term in Taiwan`s tea drinking culture. This type of tea possesses a unique aged and bitter flavor. This time, I will share with you “What is elderly tea?”
The origin of “elderly tea”:
This term originated from my memory of my grandfather. He always used a purple clay teapot to brew dark brown, concentrated tea with slow and leisurely movements. Such tea brewing process, along with the tradition of drinking tea from morning till night, associates tea with the elderly. However, with increasing work pressure, only retired seniors now have the opportunity to experience this leisurely tea enjoyment.
“Elderly tea” is not limited to the elderly:
“Elderly tea” is not exclusively for the elderly; it symbolizes a leisurely lifestyle. Imagine selecting a beloved tea set, savoring the aroma of tea soup, chatting with friends, and even skillfully demonstrating “busy” tea brewing techniques even when there`s nothing to say. This makes traditional tea brewing a very interesting activity.
The deliciousness of “elderly tea”:
One of the characteristics of “elderly tea” is its rich tea soup. Only intense tea soup can stimulate the taste buds of the elderly. This intensity comes from using more tea leaves and less water, somewhat similar to the brewing method of Italian espresso. If you are not accustomed to such intense flavor, you can use fewer tea leaves or shorten the brewing time to experience a milder cup of tea.
There is no fixed way to brew tea, nor is there an absolute flavor that is universally delicious. Finding the brewing method that suits you is an exploratory process. Below are some different methods of brewing tea for your reference. Until next time.
