Today, I`m going to share with you some easily confused names of teas. Oolong tea, Jin Xuan tea, Alishan tea, Dong Ding tea, Gao Leng tea, Oriental Beauty tea. These Taiwanese tea names may sound quite different, but some of them refer to the same type of tea. For example, high mountain tea is Alishan tea, which is also oolong tea. So, how do we distinguish the types of Taiwanese tea? This time, we`ll use a simple chart to help explain the naming conventions of Taiwanese tea.
Just remember that Taiwanese tea names usually consist of four parts: flavor + origin + variety + processing method.
Flavor: such as light fragrance, sweet fragrance, strong fragrance, honey fragrance
Origin: such as Alishan, Dong Ding Mountain
Variety: such as Qing Xin Oolong, Four Seasons Spring
Processing method: tea leaf processing fermentation technique, such as oolong tea, black tea.
There are also some special names, which are actually brand names, such as Songbai Changqing tea, Oriental Beauty tea, Muzha Tieguanyin. If we break down these brand names, we can see their composition: Songbai Changqing tea = light fragrance + Songbai Ridge + Four Seasons Spring + oolong tea; Oriental Beauty tea = honey fragrance + Hsinchu County + Qing Xin Da Mou + oolong tea; Muzha Tieguanyin = strong fragrance + Muzha + Tieguanyin + oolong tea.
