Fenghuang Village, Ercheng Lane in Lugu Township, is the location of the You Shan Tea Visit family-run tea factory. The tea factory is built in the traditional Taiwanese “tu wei cuo” style, using a mixture of clay, rice husks, and rice straw applied over a main structure of wood and bamboo. Over time, the flooring has evolved from dirt to a red brick dust (cement) foundation.
The walls are left unpainted, and the floors are devoid of any decoration, allowing the cement to remain exposed. This creates a very ventilated, moisture-absorbing, cool, and breathable environment. These conditions form the optimal tea production environment and a comfortable dwelling. When making tea, if one feels comfortable, it is easy to produce good tea. Besides producing its own tea, the You Shan Tea Visit factory is also a place for internal colleagues, partners, and friends interested in tea to learn about tea production.
From outdoor withering to rolling and drying, traditional tea-making tools are used. These include bamboo withering racks, small frying pans for tea, copper sticks for rolling, benches resembling washing boards for hand-rolling the tea leaves, and a type of drying machine. These tools have become rare, as they do not meet the production needs of today`s large-scale tea production. Mastering the principles and methods of these tools can lead to a grasp of the traditional Dong Ding Oolong tea-making craft. Experiencing the complete tea-making process is guaranteed to deeply engrain the value of tea.
Indeed, including dining, everything carries the traditional exquisite taste!
