Lishan is located in Taichung City, Taiwan. It takes about four hours to drive there from Sun Moon Lake. Taking the Lixing Industrial Road can save some time, but the route is extremely steep and dangerous. It is not advisable for sedans to take this route; only four-wheel-drive vehicles with high clearance can attempt it, passing through Cingjing Farm and Hehuanshan on the way to Lishan.
Lishan Oolong Tea is known for its refreshing, sweet, non-irritating taste, with a gentle and distinct aroma. The finest Lishan tea even has the fresh fragrance of green-skinned grapes. Lishan also produces many agricultural products, including cabbage, garlic sprouts, apples, peaches, persimmons, pears, and other mountain delicacies. If you encounter a truck loaded with cabbages, please give way, as the drivers are in a hurry. They need to travel from Lishan, through Hehuanshan, and rush to Taipei`s morning market, a journey that takes at least seven hours. Speeding through Hehuanshan under the starry sky with a truck full of cabbages is a true Taiwanese heroism. A careless moment can lead to a deep abyss by the roadside (Hehuanshan is over 3,000 meters high). Besides these fruits and vegetables, tea is an important agricultural product of the area. The local climate is cold, with frequent fog and strong but short sunlight exposure. To survive, the tea plants accumulate more sugars and amino acids, and the rocky soil provides excellent drainage.
